Safaricom
If you made a mistake with the recipient’s phone number unfortunately there is nothing we can do as the funds cannot be reversed. The name should not be that much of a problem as long as the phone number is correct.
It is important to always double-check before sending your transfer to make sure the details are accurate. Taptap Send allows editing everything until the very last step for that reason.
Bank Transfers
Unfortunately, we cannot modify nor refund Bank Transfers, it is really important for you to double-check all the relevant info before checking who you are sending money to.
Tips for the recipient
Safaricom
Please find below some useful information to help your recipient regarding their mobile wallet in Kenya.
Checking their M-PESA Balance
They can check their current M-PESA balance free of charge. Note, their balance shows at the end of every SMS each time they do an M-PESA transaction.
- To consult their wallet balance to see if the transfer has arrived, they can log in to their mySafaricom App or select Check Balance on M-PESA menu in your Safaricom sim tool kit, enter their secret PIN and receive an sms with their balance
Withdraw from M-PESA
If they are a Registered M-PESA Customer, they need to go to an M-PESA Agent and:
- Confirm the agent has sufficient funds for your transaction
- Give their phone number and show their original ID
- Go to their M-PESA menu, select 'Withdraw cash
- Enter the Agent number, the amount they wish to withdraw and their PIN.
- They will receive a screenshot with the above transaction details, confirm they are correct then Press OK.
- They will receive an SMS confirming the transaction.
- The agent will then give the cash which your recipient should count and they will need to sign a Log Book which is a record of M-PESA transactions done in that store.
If they are a Non-Registered Customer, they will need to go to an M-PESA Agent and:
- Confirm the agent has sufficient funds for your transaction
- Present the SMS containing the M-PESA voucher number (notification confirming receipt of cash)
- Give their phone number and show original ID
- The agent will enter the 'one time code' that is displayed on the customer's SMS
- Both the agent and the customer will receive an SMS confirming the transaction
- The agent will then give the cash which your recipient should count and they will need to sign a Log Book which is a record of M-PESA transactions done in that store
How to receive M-PESA Statements on E-Mail
Your recipient can receive monthly M-PESA statements easily and conveniently.
- They need to dial *234# from their mobile phone to access the menu, Select ‘My M-PESA Information’, then ‘M-PESA Statement’ or Click on M-PESA Statement at the bottom of the M-PESA landing page on mySafaricom App
- They will select ‘Full Statement’ then register with their National ID or document of registration number, then enter and confirm their email
