Getting Started with a Virtual IBAN

What are virtual account details?

Virtual account details are another way for you to receive or add funds to your Taptap Wallet. With these details, you receive an account number, sort code and IBAN so that you, your friends, your employer, or any other third party can send funds to your Taptap Wallet via bank transfer.

Who is eligible to get virtual account details with Taptap Send?

Virtual account details are currently in beta and available only to a select number of customers in the UK and in the EU.

How do I activate and find my account details in the app?

If you are a Taptap Send cardholder, you will automatically receive virtual account details, which you can see on your GBP/EUR wallet details screen by tapping on the GBP/EUR wallet tile on the home screen of our app.

If you are not a Taptap Send cardholder but have a GBP/EUR wallet, you can choose to receive account details by:

  • Tapping on the GBP/EUR wallet tile on the home screen
  • Selecting the “get account details” button near the top of the screen

Don’t have a GBP wallet and not sure how to get one? See our Taptap Wallet FAQ page for more information.

Why does the Bank Name say “ClearBank”?

For our UK customers:
ClearBank Limited is our official partner bank.

For our European customers:
Your virtual IBAN starts with "NL" because ClearBank Europe N.V. is our official partner bank in the European Union. Your virtual IBAN starts with NL because they use Netherlands-based Euro payment infrastructure.
Don't worry, your virtual IBAN works throughout the EU, for all our EU customers,  just like any other virtual IBAN! You can still receive payments even if you live outside of the Netherlands.

Which currencies are supported with virtual account details?

At this time, only GBP and EUR transfers are supported with virtual account details.

What is the virtual IBAN Confirmation of Payee check?

When you send money, our virtual IBAN provider may automatically check whether the recipient’s account details (such as the name and account number) match. This is called a Confirmation of Payee check.

This check is designed to help reduce errors and protect you from sending money to the wrong account.

Can I opt out of the Confirmation of Payee check?

Yes. You can choose to opt out of the Confirmation of Payee check at any time.

To opt out, simply send us an email from the email address linked to your account and let us know that you would like to disable the Confirmation of Payee check. Our team will take care of it for you.

If you opt out, payments will still go through as normal, but the account detail matching check will no longer be applied.
