Sending to Alipay (China)

Can I send to Alipay with Taptap?

Yes. Yes. You can send CNY to a recipient’s Alipay account in Mainland China. First-time recipients complete a one-time Quick Collect setup after you send, then future transfers are usually near-instant.

Who is eligible to receive? Chinese citizens (18+), or HK/Macau residents with a Mainland Travel Permit (these recipients typically can only receive to Alipay balance).

What does my recipient need?

  • An Alipay account in their own name with real-name verification (Quick Collect).
  • To finish the 4 Quick Collect steps within 72h of getting Alipay’s SMS/notification: real-name auth → sign service agreement → choose wallet or linked bank card → provide any extra info requested.
  • If they choose bank card, they may need to bind a card in Alipay

ID accepted for verification: China Resident ID (citizens) or Mainland Travel Permit (HK/Macau).

What recipient details do I enter in Taptap?

  • Full name: exactly as on their Alipay account/ID.
  • Alipay ID: the phone registered with Alipay.

Important: If name/ID don’t match, the transfer won’t be able to be completed.

Do I need to choose a reason for the transfer?

Yes, required by Chinese regulation. For individuals: Family support, Salary, Savings, Goods, Services. Alipay may ask for supporting documents (e.g., kinship letter, payslip, invoice/contract) depending on the reason.

What happens after I send?

First time receiving on Alipay

  1. Recipient gets a notification from their Alipay app with a unique link → opens Alipay.
  2. Completes real-name authentication and signs the agreement.
  3. Chooses Alipay balance or linked bank card to receive.
  4. Finishes within 72h → money then credits quickly.

Already set up? Transfers usually arrive in seconds/minutes depending on the receiving method.

How long does it take?

  • Returning recipients: usually minutes.
  • First time: must finish Quick Collect within 72h or Alipay cancels and refunds.

How much can I send?

  • Per transfer: up to 50,000 CNY.
  • Frequency/annual caps (all providers combined):
    • Family: up to 15/month, ¥800,000/year; Salary: 15/month, ¥800,000/year; Savings: 15/month, ¥600,000/year; Goods/Services: no monthly limit, ¥600,000/¥300,000/year respectively.
    • Monthly counts are cumulative across services (not just Taptap).

Why? Limits are set by Alipay/Chinese regulation and may vary by purpose and recipient category.

Why was my transfer cancelled or delayed?

Common reasons:

  • Recipient didn’t finish Quick Collect (or card-binding) within 72h.
  • Name/Alipay ID mismatch.
  • Receiving limits reached for the reason/category.
  • Documents requested by Alipay but not provided.

If the window expires, the payment is cancelled and refunded automatically

How does my recipient receive the money (wallet vs bank)?

During Quick Collect, they choose Alipay balance or their linked bank card; payout speed depends on the method.

My transfer failed or is stuck, what should I do?

  1. Confirm Quick Collect is finished (first time):  real-name, agreement, and receiving method within 72h. If not, it will be cancelled/refunded.
  2. Check recipient details: name (Latin/pinyin) and Alipay ID match; fix any mismatch.
  3. Verify limits: ¥50k per transfer & monthly/annual caps by reason.
  4. Provide documents if Alipay asks (kinship letter, payslip, invoice/contract).
  5. Didn’t get the notification? Ask the recipient to contact Alipay support in-app to reissue/confirm.
